Tough Tiz's Sis romped to a 12-length victory in the $300,000 Ruffian Handicap for fillies and mares Saturday at rainy and sloppy Belmont Park. Edgar Prado was aboard as Tough Tiz's Sis took charge on the turn and pulled away to her eighth win in 20 starts. "Coming out of the gate, I put her in a good spot," Prado said.

Yonkers cancels live and simulcast racing (AP)

Yonkers Raceway canceled its live and simulcast racing scheduled for Saturday night due to the severe weather expected in the area. Afternoon simulcasting was to continue Saturday afternoon through the conclusion of the Belmont card. Live racing was scheduled to resume Monday night, with first post at 7:40 p.m.

Ky. governor bans steroids in race horses (AP)

Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear signed an emergency regulation Friday banning steroids for the state's thoroughbred and standardbred races. The new rules go into effect immediately and ban anabolic steroids from being present in the blood of any horse that's racing. Horse regulators approved the sweeping ban earlier this month.

Midshipman edged Coronet of a Baron by a nose Wednesday in the $250,000 Del Mar Futurity. Ridden by Tyler Baze, the 2-year-old colt covered seven furlongs in 1:23.35 and paid $14.60, $8.60 and $5.60. Midshipman earned $150,000 to boost career total to $180,000. Coronet of a Baron returned $8.40 and $5.60, and Street Hero paid $5.20 to show.

The Chancellor drew off in the stretch and set a track record in winning the $85,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes final for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings at Freehold Raceway on Wednesday. Driven by Andy Miller, the son of Yankee Glide trotted the mile in 1:57.3 in breaking the track record for 2-year-old trotters by a second.

A stretch of nice weather helped Saratoga Race Course rally from a soggy start to its 140th season, but attendance figures dipped nearly 10 percent for the meet. According to the New York Racing Association, attendance for the 36-day season that ended Monday was 864,363, down from 958,574 in 2007. Daily average attendance fell to just over 24,000, down from more than 26,000 last year.

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair has sold Stonerside Stables to Darley, a breeding company run by Dubai ruler Sheik Mohammed. McNair, who founded the farm in 1994 with his wife Janice, said in a statement the time demands of running the Texans led to his decision to sell the 2,000-acre farm in central Kentucky and the training center in Aiken, S.C.

Peppers Pride's bid for a North American-record 17th win in 17 starts has been put on hold after the horse was scratched from the Lincoln Handicap on Sunday. Trainer Joel Marr scratched Peppers Pride after the Ruidoso Downs track turned sloppy due to rain over the previous day and a half. The thoroughbred mare has never raced on a wet track, the track said in a news release.
