Jason Kendall started his 120th game behind the plate Wednesday night in St. Louis, most of any catcher in the majors. Manager Ned Yost said what he likes most about Kendall is that he always puts calling games and defensive work ahead of his offense.

"That's what I've always liked about him," Yost said. "Yeah, he likes to get hits, but that's not his main focus. He wants to get that pitcher through the game. That's what I want, somebody back there who is focused on them, concerned about them.

"The pitchers have to execute, but it's not a coincidence (that the Brewers' pitching has improved). He hasn't slowed down a bit, from the first day of spring training. He's the first one here every day, and it's not to sit in the training room."
