Lance Berkman carried the Astros offensively through April and May and Carlos Lee took over in June and July. But the guy that did most of the damage with the bat in August didn't quite come with the same credentials as Berkman and Lee.
The month of August was a record-setting one for Ty Wigginton, who hit .379 and tied Jeff Bagwell's club record by hitting 12 homers in the month to go along with 26 RBIs. He was the National League's co-player of the week Aug. 11-17.
Had he not missed nearly a month of the season with a fractured thumb, Wigginton would have been well on his way to setting career records in homers (24 in 2006) and RBIs (79 in 2006).
