Detroit's hopes for success in 2009 can be found buried at the back end of the bullpen.
Wednesday night was all too typical of what has happened to the Tigers this season.
Although right-hander Justin Verlander, the starter, was on the mound when Cleveland took leads of 1-0, 3-1 and 4-3, he left having allowed five runs in six innings. Detroit ended up scoring seven.
Right-hander Gary Glover inherited a 5-4 deficit and gave up a two-run home run.
Left-hander Bobby Seay pitched a scoreless eighth but left after giving up two singles to open the ninth. His successor, right-hander Kyle Farnsworth, gave up two RBI singles before getting out of the ninth.
